Safer Cleaning for Kids Toys
I spent several hours yesterday helping our teacher with year-end cleaning of toys and the significance of this task was not lost on me. Four years ago on this date I bought a diffuser and a set of versatile essential oils and jumped into this world of essential oils and non-toxic living. 🌱
A few months prior I’d had a 1.5yo going through a MASSIVE sleep regression so I was getting nearly no sleep as well. We were also navigating the stressful waters of selling and buying a home in Silicon Valley. It was a wicked combo. A girlfriend gave me some oils and they actually fucking worked—we all slept, we felt less stressed and so I decided to see what else oils could do for us.
It turns out quite a lot.
A month later I had my first miscarriage and I started waking up to the toxic burdens we all carry. As I peeled back the layers, I became more passionate about clearing junk out of our lives. The first change I made was how I clean things. You don’t need 20 bottles of different cleaning products, most of witch are full of icky stuff, lack transparency about what’s in them (thank you “trade secret” labeling laws), cause respiratory harm, and cause dangerous chemicals to linger in your home. Arm yourself with some readily available items —vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice—and a safe plant-based cleaner and you’re good to go. 🍋
All these toys are heading back to school clean, sanitized and free of harsh chemicals. 🙌
The most satisfying part of my non-toxic journey and my business as an essential oil educator is seeing people become more empowered about their wellness and setting limits on what they allow into their home. It’s an easy first step to take and has a huge impact.
Be well, friends!
