With Little Man transitioning into pre-school in September and with our choosing a part-time program, I quit my job. It’s a job that I love and find largely satisfying. It’s a job that is based on many years of professional growth and at which I’m quite skilled. It’s a job that helps meet our family’s financial needs in this ridiculously expensive region where we live. However, considering that this is Silicon Valley, and I work mostly for startups, it’s also a job that often comes with a lot of pressure, a shortage of resources and a feeling of a really long and never-ending to-do list.

After the events of last year and the lifestyle changes we’ve made to reduce our chemical burden, I’ve also taken a hard look at the impact of  stress on our short and long-term health. You don’t need me to tell you this–we ALL would do well to reduce stress in our lives and better manage our response to the stress we cannot eliminate. In addition to using essential oils as the foundation of our personal care and cleaning products, we’re using them to support our emotional wellness and manage our stress. Along the way, I’ve shared the benefits of essential oils with friends, family and strangers all seeking to make similar changes in their lives and they too are seeing improvements in their well-being.

This act of sharing has revealed a new passion–that of helping others on their own journey to a less-toxic life. I never expected to earn an income simply by telling people about something awesome, but that’s what has happened. It’s been a small thing until now, but as of today, I am going all in on creating a business around helping people eliminate toxins and dangerous chemicals from their lives and begin living a life of wellness.

In addition to enabling more time with my young son, I’m excited to pursue a job that makes a difference in the lives of people and their families.  The potential to replace the income that I was earning as a tech marketing consultant without all the stress and Silicon Valley BS that came with it is truly rewarding.
